Cosco's involvement in the Port of Hamburg criticized

Cosco/Hamburg, the US mustn’t interfere

by Port News Editorial Staff

Beijing Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said the US has “no right” to interfere in the cooperation between China and Germany, after Washington warned Berlin about Cosco’s involvement in the Tollerort container terminal.

According to Lijian, the interference of US officials in the affairs of other countries has exposed their “hegemonic mentality” and the “evil practice” of coercive diplomacy.

“Pragmatic cooperation between China and Germany is a matter for the two sovereign countries. The United States  should not attack without  reason and has no right to meddle and interfere,” he added.

On 4th November, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will visit Beijing where he will meet President Xi Jinping

Despite Berlin’s political resistance, the German federal government approved the agreement with Cosco at the end of October, allowing it to acquire 24.9% of Hamburger Hafen und Logistik Container Terminal Tollerort, which operates the Tollerort container terminal in the German port of call.
