In 2023, Greek shipowners ordered 164 new vessels, more than double the number commissioned in the previous year (81), according to Allied Shipbroking’s latest report.
Greece consolidates its position as top orderer, followed by Japanese shipowners, who commissioned 144 newbuildings in 2023. Singapore and China are in third and fourth place with 110 and 92 orders respectively,
The largest number of ships continue to be built in China. In 2023, Chinese shipbuilders secured 859 orders, far more than the 191 commissioned in Japanese shipyards and the 177 in South Korea.
