Traffic handled at Civitavecchia re-routed to Livorno

Hapag Lloyd opts for Livorno

by Port News Editorial Staff

Hapag Lloyd is bidding farewell to Civitavecchia. Logistical problems at the Lazio port, including a lack of retroport container storage space have prompted the German shipping company to re-route at least 12,000 TEUs a year to the port of Livorno, which is considered more competitive and efficient.

This will benefit Darsena Toscana Terminal, currently managed by the Grimaldi Group, which the Hamburg-based carrier has been a long-standing customer of. From February 2025 Hapag Lloyd has been calling at Livorno with the Turkey East Coast Express (TEX) and Atlantic Loop 7 (AL7) loops, bringing 30,000 containers a year.
