This morning, the Port Network Authority (PNA) inaugurated a training course aimed at identifying future On-Site Health & Safety Representatives (RLSS), who coordinate safety for the entire port, acting as a point of reference between workers, unions and institutions.
The course, open exclusively to company Health & Safety Representatives (RLS), aims to develop their skills, helping to improve safety levels in port activities.
Port Network Authority president, Davide Gariglio together with trade union representatives attended the course inauguration. In his introductory speech, Mr. Gariglio stressed the strategic importance of these professions in one of the most complex, dynamic working environments in the world, which has a high risk of accidents due to the presence of a multitude of companies and different activities overlapping.
“We operate in the port sector, a highly regulated environment with a regulatory framework that remains at the forefront of labour protection and organization today,” said Mr. Gariglio. “However, regulations alone are not enough to safeguard us from human error,” he added, “which is why we need to increasingly invest in safety training: it is a strategic lever that transforms health protection into a key organizational component of port work.”
Quoting the message from the President of the Republic, Sergio Matterella, on the occasion of the second edition of the General Assembly on Health and Safety at Work, the PNA President recalled that safeguarding workers is the first form of justice. “It can’t be called a job unless it’s safe,” he stressed, adding: “Even today, I feel the need to remind everyone that accidents in the port can only be prevented through the joint efforts of institutions, businesses, workers and social partners. Human capital continues to be our port’s top resource.”
