Livorno Marina to kick off in April

by Port News Editorial Staff

Construction work on Livorno’s leisure port is going to begin in April. Azimut-Benetti and marina operator D-Marin announced it at a press conference organized by Livorno Municipality.

The project is expected to be completed by June 2026. The first parts of the Livorno Marina will be made available to yachtsmen much earlier. The new marina will offer a total of 815 berths.

The investment is estimated to be around €14-15 million. The project includes jetty renovation, creating meeting areas plus entertainment and leisure facilities. Over 220 m2 of the site will be reserved for restaurants, 60 m2 for bars, and 250 m2 will be used for offices.

According to Azimut, the marina will be eco-friendly using trees and hedges instead of fences, solar panels to produce a significant part of the energy, and, likewise, collecting rainwater to irrigate green areas.

“Livorno is going to have its own marina. At the beginning of December, after 16 years, the procedure for awarding the concession was finally formalized and subsequently signed. So construction work on Marina can soon begin. It  will bring economic benefits  to a part of the city that links  its centre to the seafront,” said mayor, Luca Salvetti. He stressed that this is another step forward in developing Livorno, “which will benefit from it with an important return in terms of both tourism and employment. I would like to thank all those who have been working to achieve this goal, including Livorno’s yachting industry, which managed to secure a 20-year concession with 450 berths.”

“Our Azimut-Benetti Group has been working for 20 years with institutions and the local community to complete the Porta Mare project,” said Paolo Vitelli, the Group’s founder. “Today, we are proud to present the final version of the project, approved and appreciated by all the stakeholders involved. Livorno Marina will be an avant-garde facility. Our historic Medicean port will be incorporated into a modern, beautiful, eco-friendly marina, open to the city and yachtsmen from all over the world. To further consolidate the project, we have recently set up a partnership with D-Marin, the largest and most successful marina operator in the Mediterranean, in order to be able to provide high quality management and innovative services to national and international ship-owners calling at Livorno. This is truly an important day for us and for Livorno.”

According to Nicolo Caffo,  General Manager of D-Marin Italia, the one in Livorno “will be one of the most prestigious marinas in the Mediterranean, the result of a common vision, designed to suit top level customer experience, commercial excellence, commitment to sustainability and innovation. In partnership with Azimut-Benetti Group, D-Marin will ensure that Livorno Marina thrives and becomes the prestigious yachting hub we are confident it can be.”
