MSC orders new containerships

by Port News Editorial Staff

MSC continues to bolster its orderbook. In fact, the world’s largest shipowner has placed an order with China’s Zhoushan Changhong International Shipyard for ten new 11,400 TEU boxships.

According to specialized periodical The Loadstar, delivery is expected to be in 2025 and 2026.

Although the price has not been disclosed, it is estimated that the newbuildings will cost around 120 million dollars each. Vessels of this size are mainly employed on transpacific routes.

If the latest orders are confirmed, MSC’s orderbook would now total 134 ships, the equivalent of 1.84 million TEUs.
