by Port News Editorial Staff

Taiwanese shipping company Wan Hai Lines has commissioned eight new containerships from the Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding shipyard.

The order, with an estimated $980 million, is for one 9,200 TEU dual-fuel vessel, capable of running on methanol, and seven 11,000 TEU vessels, also dual-fuel, powered by LNG or methanol.

In total, the big carrier has over 40 containerships on order, with contracts with shipyards in China, Taiwan and South Korea.
