Wärtsilä secures eco-friendly order

The shipping methanol era could soon be upon us. In fact, the Finnish group Wärtsilä has secured a maxi order from the Dutch shipbuilding company Van Oord for producing  five engines running on  CH₃OH.

The engines will be mounted on a new vessel  to be used for installing offshore wind turbines. The newbuilding will be built for Van Oord at the Yantai CIMC Raffles shipyard in China.

Harold Linssen, project director, Van Oord.  said that his company  considered  methanol as one of the alternatives for meeting  the industry’s goals to reduce its environmental impact
