by Port News Editorial Staff

Livorno – Shortly after the seizure at the end of July, the Customs Anti-Fraud Department and the Revenue Police on duty in the city have dealt another blow against drug trafficking

This time, 51 kg of drugs have been seized.  They were in dozens of small bundles put inside a container along with a food shipment on a vessel arriving from South America.

The operation, which was conducted with the help of sniffer dogs, also led to one person being  arrested.

The drug, after being sampled and analyzed by Livorno’s Customs Laboratory, will be destroyed at the incinerator, preventing  it from  hitting the drug markets where it would have earned organized crime over 35 million euros.

The operation, carried out in synergy between the Italian Criminal Police and Customs, was coordinated by the Livorno Public Prosecutor’s Office, which validated the seizure.
