by Port News Editorial Staff

Box shipping rates are rising again. Freight rates on the eight major routes to and from the United States, Europe, and Asia showed a tentative but encouragingly positive result this week, up 1% to an average of $2,725 per 40ft container.

The Drewry World Container Index is now 55% higher than the same week last year and 92% higher than 2019.

Shanghai – Genoa rates  have increased the most: +3% on a weekly basis, to €3717 per FEU.  Shanghai – Rotterdam tariffs are also up, by 2%, to $3103/FEU.

On the Rotterdam – Shanghai and Shanghai – Los Angeles routes, freight rates both fell by 1% to $739 and $3371 per FEU respectively.

Tariffs on all other routes have remained stable.
