The tonnage provider MPC Container Ships (MPCC), based in Oslo, has announced that it has signed shipbuilding contracts for six sub-Panamax boxships.
The orders were placed with the Chinese shipyard Taizhou Sanfu Ship Engineering, and delivery is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2028.
MPCC has disclosed that the total investment amounts to $292.5 million and that all six dual-fuel ships, with a capacity of 3,700 TEUs, will be chartered for ten years (with an option to extend) to a leading shipping company, which, according to Lloyd’s List, could be Hapag Lloyd.
The German carrier recently signed 14 long-term charter contracts for newly built containerships with capacities ranging from 1,800 to 4,500 TEUs.
According to the company, the ten-year charter agreement will generate $479 million in revenue and approximately $288 million in EBITDA.
