On course for a sustainable future

by Port News Editorial Staff

President Guerrieri had announced it  at the end of last September during a Management Committee meeting. “We will begin the process of ensuring that the Port Network Authority publishes its Sustainability Report by June, the primary objective assigned to Port Network Authority Presidents by Minister Giovannini ” he said.

Today, the North Tyrrhenian Port Network  Authority – governing body of the ports of Livorno, Piombino, Portoferraio, Rio Marina, Cavo, Capraia Isola – has taken a decisive step forward towards achieving this objective, by  starting  collaborative  discussions with stakeholders and operators, in view of  the drafting of this  important document.

The initiative represents  part of the process undertaken by the Authority with a view to  defining and implementing a system for measuring and assessing the impact of the development of the local area  on the environment and the quality of life.

“The Sustainability Report is a voluntary non-financial reporting, which will stand alongside the annual financial statement on an ongoing basis,” said Port Network Authority President Luciano Guerrieri.

“It is a tangible sign of the Port Network Authority’s desire to start a virtuous path that places sustainability as the underlying strategic policy. We want to stimulate discussion with all stakeholders, to understand their expectations and concerns and to build a port system that is closer to the needs of the economy, the environment and society”.

The questionnaire, online until the end of February 2022, consists of five questions which are  easy and quick to answer, It will be recorded anonymously and will allow the Authority to complete the work of identifying the most relevant issues for sustainability.

The results of the survey will become an integral part of the Report. This will highlight the relationship between the interests of the Authority and those of its stakeholders.
