Return to Suez route continues

In a LinkedIn post, Lars Jensen highlights how Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd have launched a new service, called AE18/SE5, which will link Asia to the Mediterranean, departing from China and calling at Tanjung Pelepas, Tangier and Algeciras. At the same time, the call at Tangier will be removed from three of the current Asia-Europe services.

“Basically, what we are seeing is a continuing gradual adjustment of the overall Gemini network towards a situation of normal usage of the Suez Canal.” Says the Vespucci Maritime CEO

MSC and CMA CGM have also announced that they have resumed their joint Europe–Australia service on the Suez route, known as NEWMO for CMA CGM and Australia Express for MSC.

According to Jensen, these developments confirm that the time is gradually drawing nearer when it will become necessary to stop counting the days since the start of the Red Sea crisis: “This is certainly good news for shipping,” he concludes.
