Under the agreement with Shell

ZIM, LNG bunkering in Jamaica

by Port News Editorial Staff

ZIM Integrated Shipping Services has successfully completed its first liquefied natural gas bunkering operation under a 10-year sales and purchase agreement with Shell.

The Zim Sammy Ofer, which was refuelled with LNG at the Kingston Freeport Terminal, Jamaica, on 26th March, is the first in a series of ten 15,000 teu LNG-fuelled boxships that the company plans to use on its commercial lines.

According to David Arbel, Chief Operating Officer, the safe, efficient LNG bunkering of the Zim Sammy Ofer was  a great achievement for all parties involved. He said that Zim’s LNG-fuelled fleet would enable it to improve its competitive position, particularly on the strategic Asia-USEC trade, by increasing its carbon and cost efficiency.
